New Look Chennai Super Kings Website

The Chennai Super Kings official Website (www.chennaisuperkings.com) has been redesigned. Though the website retains the black background, it is the yellow color that hits you on your face. Though i like the initial design better, i found the redesigned website much more easy to navigate.

Official Blog

But the real surprise was the new blog with VB and sports journalist Anand Phillar as authors. My only hope is that this does not become a one-off thing that dies off after the initial burst. Thanks to the blog, Chennai Super Kings management team now has a means to tap with the sentiments of its fans.

Way to Go! Chennai Super Kings!

P.S: Fans, Visit the website and post your comments .

Proud to be a Super King

Chennai Super Kings fans have always been proud about the achievements of our players both in IPL and in international scene.  We were proud when Raina played match winning knocks for India. We were proud when Albie Morkel produced match winning knocks for his team. We were proud when Oram bowled his heart out for NZ. We were proud when Hayden retired from his illustrious career.

Now Even Chennai Super Kings Management have joined us in openly acknowledging their happiness of the performance of CSK Stars.

Music to My Ears

Hearing a star player of any sports club reassuring his support and commitment to the team is surely a great news for the fans of the club. So When Hayden in his telephonic interview confirmed in no uncertain terms that he is committed to Chennai Super Kings, it was music to my ears.

Please find Excerpts of Hayden’s Interview Below:

“My focus is now on IPL and my team Chennai Super Kings. That is the cricket left in me. I've got great passion and drive to play for Chennai. I look forward to the IPL with great anticipation.”

“I'm also very excited about the IPL and being a part of it. I'm looking forward to working with Stephen Fleming and MS Dhoni in the upcoming tournament. I'm particularly happy with the brand of cricket the team plays. The IPL was a phenomenal experience for me.”

Now that you say the IPL is your goal, are you thinking of settling down in Chennai?
Most definitely. I have great friends in Chennai and southern part of India and coincidentally, I was taken by the Chennai team. It is a wonderful experience and opportunity for me. I feel blessed.

Hayden, It is we (the CSK Fans) who are blessed that you are playing for us.

Fleming donning Coach Hat

We all knew that Fleming took up the role of the coach of Chennai Super Kings for the cancelled Champions League. Now VB has confirmed that Fleming would continue to be the coach for the upcoming IPL season too. Chandrasekhar has also confirmed that Fleming would not play which means Chennai Super Kings still has the option to buy 4 more foreign international players.

Chennai Super Kings - Flintoff Saga Continues

This blog has already reported about Chennai Super Kings’ interest in Flintoff. With today’s TOI report, more news have started flowing about CSK’s interest in Freddie.

  • Chennai Super Kings have spoken with him when he visited Chennai for the India-England Test match
  • Chennai Super Kings are ready to go all out for Flintoff in the auctions. So expect another million dollar contract for Flintoff

By leaking such valuable information, Chennai Super Kings team are making sure that they are able to ward off any other team showing interest in Flintoff. Hope the strategy works and they are able to get him in for an economical rate.

TOI also reports that Hayden may get a hike to his salary. Personally I feel it is time that CSK players get a part of their salary based on personal and team’s performance rather than the fixed amount they are receiving now.

A Spinner Needed at Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings are approaching the transfers and the upcoming auction with a simple requirement: “Buy a Slow Bowler who can bat”. The approach is based on the assumption that the pitches this year would be much slower than last year. Which means two quality slow bowlers would be required by the side.

With Ramesh Pawar put on the transfer list by Mohali list, we can be sure that Chennai Super Kings would be approaching Mohali. Simultaneously we can expect them to approach any quality foreign spinners who can bat.

Transfers and Rumors

It has taken more than 3 weeks of transfer window for the first IPL transfer to be announced. Delhi Daredevils have traded Dhawan for Nehra with Mumbai Indians. With only five more days left for the deadline of IPL Transfer Window, expect many more transfers to hit the news.

In other news, sports arena (Based on TOI) has reported that M Vijay has been signed by Chennai Super Kings. It is really good news - especially since the openers were an Achilles heel for us in the first season.

News Snippets

  1. Vijay is Out: With the enormous success of IPL last season, most of the franchises have decided to do away with the film stars. Chennai Super Kings are also a part of that trend and have decided to do away with Kollywood (Chennai Film Industry) brand ambassadors. I believe the economic crisis also had a role to play in that decision. Anyway, Srikkanth would be the only Brand Ambassador for Chennai Super Kings hereafter. [Source: Economic Times]
  2. Hayden is in: In the four matches that Hayden played last year, he proved that he is worth every single dollar CSK paid him. With his retirement from his illustrious international career, he is going to be there for the entire season this year. A Happy News for the entire CSK family. [Source: Hindu]

News Snippets

  1. CSK chases Flintoff: With England allowing its players to play in IPL, buzz is that Flintoff would end up with Chennai Super Kings. If it happens, it would be great to have three allrounders (Flintoff, Oram & Morkel) in the side since the risk of injuries would be diversified.
  2. CSK Looking for Murali Back-Up: TOI notes that CSK is looking for a backup for  Murali, a spinner who can bat. But this makes sense only if the spinner is an Indian so that he doesn’t eat up the four available foreign player spots. What TOI forgets to note is that CSK already possess 2 top-quality Indian spinners – Ashwin & Shadab Jakti. And what CSK really need is a young promising spinner who will take up the mantle from Murali when he retires.
