Where is Dinesh Karthik????

Dinesh Karthik Tamilnadu Indian Cricket TeamThis would have been the question in the hearts of every cricket lover from Chennai, on seeing the list of players won by Chennai Super Kings in the bidding war. Unlike cities like Bangalore or Mumbai, Chennai boasts only one player(Dinesh) from its city who is a member of current Indian Cricket team. So, when Chennai Super Kings went for the auction today, it was expected by one and all, that Dinesh Karthik would be a part of the team. Surprisingly, the team that went all the way to win Dhoni, did not pick Dinesh Karthik.

Yeah! With Dhoni on board, we need not have to pay such a huge price for a reserve wicket keeper. [Delhi bought Dinesh Karthick for US $ 525,000 making him the most expensive wicket keeper outside the star ones - Dhoni, Gilchrist and McCullum]. There may be a sound logic why Dinesh Karthick is not in the team. But we, the fans are going to come to the stadium not because our heads say it is a logical decision. But because our hearts says "How could we miss the game?". And that heart asks why Chennai Super Kings did not pick the man from its own soil?

Hopefully Chennai Super Kings' management and selectors do not make future mistakes like this.

Yeah! Who are we supposed to support when Ntini bowls to Dinesh Karthick, the local boy or foreign bowler playing for a franchise that carries the city name???...

Oops! sorry, I posted something similar as a comment on the second round of bidding. Apologies.

The IPL is heading the way of the NBA where team loyalties trump individual preferences. Look at the LA Lakers - they won three championships with Shaq, Kobe, Horry and Fisher. Then Shaq went to Miami and on to Phoenix. Horry went back to the Rockets, Fisher wandered around and came back to the Lakers where Kobe has been from the beginning.

So, we will probably end up still supporting CSK even when franchises trade players and juggle them around.

c'est la Franchise model

@ Denkali,
Players changing sides but fans still supporting the same team happens, when the club establishes a bond with the fans on its own... But here in IPL, atleast in the initial days the franchises are going to depend on local fans for support... So Dinesh Karthik not making the team is a mistake according to me..

@ Super Loose,

Yeah.. Chennai Super Kings should have got Dinesh Karthick at any cost.. CSK Selection sucked.. Not the IPL format... :)

FORGET DINESH,ITS LIKE THIS,WHENEVER TENDULKAR PLAYS AGAINST CHENNAI SUPER KINGS WHO DO YOU SUPPORT? TOUGH ISN'T IT.YOU ALWAYS SUPPORT YOUR TEAM, NOT AN INDUVIDUAL

@ Anonmyous,
Yeah.. accept that our decision to support may not be based on a single player... But our source of disappointment may be based on a treatment to a single player.. the basic issue is that CSK should have preferred Dinesh over Parthiv but it did not happen.. that is where our disappointment lies.. :)

We can't compare IPL with the NBA as the majority of the players in NBA are americans and so you would keep supporting Lakers(if you are an LA fan)irrespective of who plays for it. BUT, here players from different countires are gonna be involved.

I am doubtful if the crowd is gonna support Akhtar when he uproots Sachin's wicket (if that happens) or cheer up Symonds to go for a six when Harbajan has the ball !!

So dont take IPL to your heart. Its all about money & entertainment (& would never be a comptetion to mainstream cricket as far as the spirit goes).

PS : And don't compare IPL with NBA! :-@ ;-)

@ Day Dreamer,
It was not me but denkali who compared IPL to NBA.. But i m not aware of NBA.. But i do follow American Baseball and in that, there are a lot of japanese players playing in it... And it does not matter much for american people which country that the players belong to..

May be the 100% of crowd wont support Akhtar taking Sachin's wicket this year.. [I will still be happy if Hayden(CSK) hits six after six of Harbhajan Singh(Mumbai Indians].. But in a few more years, that would be the situation.. And the mainstream (which wont be professionally managed) will find it tough to compete against IPL.. [unless it brings its own restrictions on IPL]

@ Robin : My post wasn't aimed at you but just my general opinion on the post and comments.

Had there been enough familiar Tamil faces in the CSK team, I would have been sure that what you said might happen. Lets watch and See !!

As far as the mainstream cricket is concerned, it is more professionally organized than the IPL and would survive many more IPLs( Read as IPL and not as T20 match format). If you know, Packers was the first person who commercialized cricket and also brought in Leagues format in Cricket. but do we even remember that now ? Has main stream cricket not survived ?

i also had the same question in my mind we shold look at dhoni also no he is coming frm north to play for south like that

@ Day Dreamer,
But still the cricket community remains thankful for Packers for the revolution he brought into the game... By Professional Management i was comparing the BCCI with IPL club owners..

Yeah.. for a lot of questions, we have to wait until IPL starts to find the answers...
