Another home victory for Chennai Super Kings

All round performance from Chennai Super Kings set up another home victory. 11th over in both the innings swung the game towards Chennai. While the 11th over in Rajasthan Royals innings started the turn-around, 11th over in Chennai Super Kings innings won the match for CSK.

Positives:
1. Jakati: After a poor start to the season, Jakati is slowly picking up his form. Today he was the best spinner on the field.
2. Hussey: Slowly and Steadily, Hussey is climbing the run charts. His form is crucial considering that Vijay has been patchy this season
3. Bollinger & Morkel:  Bollinger-Morkel team is getting the job done in the initial four and last three overs. Hope their partnership continues to deliver results for CSK.

Negatives:
1. Vijay: Vijay has the lowest average among the top five CSK batsmen in the batting order. It is time he got more quick-fire fifties under his belt.
2. Randiv: Consistency has been an issue for Randiv. With Bravo coming on May 7, I believe the next match would be the last he would be playing for CSK this season. With increasing maturity, we surely could expect a better Randiv - next season

Fan's Man of the Match - Jakati for that wonderful catch that turned the match for CSK.

We should be Du Plessis instead of Randiv, cant be worse than this for our home matches and Southee in our away matches.

Hussey is the second highest scorer in the tournament playing less number of matches. He's doing extremely good.

Only change needs to be Randiv, I guess lot of readers were harsh on Jakati, he has been pretty good all thru..last 2 iPL's and he is surely in.

I am not sure why Faf is still not used, he is such an asset.

A solid win for the Super Kings. It was nice to see a long partnership control the whole game perfectly as we don't see this from CSK very much.

Jakati's caught & bowled was what turned last night's game. He has struck some very nice form. He is such a crucial player for CSK when playing well.

Du Plessis really deserves a chance against Kolkatta before Bravo settles into the team. Its not about making the team stronger, its about giving everyone a chance and seeing what they've got. I don't understand how people can say the current XI is our strongest side. How do they know that when we haven't even given players like Du Plessis an opportunity? He is the only available international in the team not to have played a game this season. I don't want to see Randiv take the field again before he leaves for international duty.

Anirudha needs to be replaced, although i wonder if he ever will be due to his fathers connections. it's not worth having him there just in case he might face 4 or 5 balls. Replace him with a bowler or with Vignesh and use him the same way as Anirudha.

Vijay I think is worth persevering with a little longer. Faith was shown in Jakati and that has bore fruit. If Vijay can hit form, we might be in an even stronger position than last year.

Come on guys dont be too harsh on Randiv. . He has actually donr well in d crucial periods wre dhoni goes to either him or Ashwin who ever is better on tat day. .

Yeah and i too feel its d rite opportunity to bring in du plessis on fr randiv and some bowler in place of anirudha. . Considering we r playing our next match in kolkata it would be gud if we bring in du plessis and tyagi or yo mahesh in place of Randiv and Anirudha though Ani has nt done nything wrong duplessis wil be a better value with his fielding and can chip in with few overs incase dhoni needs few options. .

Still with what ever team dhoni dhoni plays with is d better playing eleven since he s d captain and he will know his players better than us. .

Which ever team combination we play we hve proved tat we r d champions. . So better not worry and keep supporting CSK. . Oru periya whistle podungapa :)

Murali - There seems to be a total loss of confidence here. As a result of this CSK look pretty ordinary in the first few overs when the fielders are up and ball comes on to bat nicely. He seems to be like a deer caught in headlights. To attack or not to attack is the dilemma. If you are looking for a loose ball to hit, then you can die wondering in this format.

Dhoni - Why does he bowl Ashwin with both mid on and mid off brought in. Any ordinary player can have a free boundary with this sort of field.

Randiv - People like Rahul Sharma of PWI are unsung heroes. Randiv came with quite a reputation but has looked very ordinary. In fact the bounce he is able to extract has become his liability instead of being an asset because his line and length have not been consistent. In this format of the game you should be miserly or if your economy rate is high then you better have a lot of wickets under your name. He has neither. The problem with persisting with Randiv is that you are denying another player of his opportunity. The only hope for Duplesis is if Randiv leaves CSK for the tour of England.

Another worrying factor is that we let teams off the hook in the first few overs. In fact most of the opposition openers have scored freely against us. The problem is we do not seem to have any strategy against this. As I have already written on an earlier post.

The major worrying factors at this stage are -

No strategy to curtail runs/take wickets in the first six overs.

Very poor run rate in the first six overs when we bat.

Randiv and Murali's continued poor show.

Lack of intensity when defending 160 plus scores.

The encouraging signs -

Raina's return of form.
Mike Hussey's continued form.
Jakati's return of confidence.
Bollinger's variations in the slog overs.

Good to see the fantastic partnership between Hussey and Raina. The problem with Vijay is he is in dilemma whether to go after the bowling or to retain the wicket but in the field he could not able to do the both. Better he can play his natural game whatever the situation like sehwag did on the match between DC. Anirudha is a good fielder and if asked to open he can get some runs under his belt. Since he can hit a fair distance MSD is persisting with him. May be we can replace with Vignesh for the match against KKR. Randiv can be replaced with FAF. Hope CSK wins and maintain the winning momentum.
