Dhoni's Rescue Act - Not Enough for CSK

Another IPL Starts for CSK with a defeat @ Home. Though CSK bowlers did a great job of restricting Mumbai Indians to sub-150 score, CSK batsman - barring Dhoni, played without any conviction or plan. Considering that this is the first match of the series and that too - against a strong MI team, expecting that this loss would not make any huge difference to the team.

Positives:
1. Nannes: Nannes did not have any problems - adjusting to a new team. Showed that hat Bollinger would not be missed this season. Expecting a consistently strong performance from him.
2. Dhoni: If not for the Pollard catch, Dhoni would have single-handedly won the game for CSK. His fine form bodes well for the team.
3. Ashwin: Thought that Ashwin also did a fine job. Except for 2 sixes from Pollard, everybody found tough handling him.

Negatives;
1. Laughlin: Though one match is never enough to judge a character, felt that Shadab Jakati could have added more to the team than Laughlin. Also would be interesting to watch Jason Holder for atleast one match.
2. CSK Batsmen: In a sub-150 score, surprised to see that none of CSK batsman took charge. Hope with more time the team spends, they would start adjusting back to their roles in CSK

CSK Fan's Man of the Match: Dhoni without any doubt.

Hope the team comes up with a better game plan for the match against Punjab. Next match on April 10 @ Mohali.

Hi Robin,

Nice write up..

As Dhoni Saiid during the presentation ceremony yesterday, it was pretty visible that csk played without any strategy.

I personally feel the following changes would have saved us :

1) Sending Bravo ahead of badri is not a wise move.. Having Bravo down the order is an asset for CSK when Morkel is not there.

2) M. Vijay needs to pacify himself until atleast he reaches a double figure. This will help the team to have a mental strength that they are not losing a wicket before 30 runs.

3) CSK should always play with 8 batsmen in the lineup. Treating Ashwin as a batsman is a risk.

4) Young Aparajith should have been given an opportunity in the place of Rajpoot.

Hope CSk will bounce back in the next match against KXIP..

Jai Ho CSK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Upto me, we did a mistake that dropping catch for pollard by jadeja. Also,sending bravo ahead of badri.

In the next match, laughlin to be replaced by morris and spin bowling to be indroduced in the batting powerplay(1-6). These are key to get our winning track back.

@Krish,

Very good points
1. Do agree that - when Morkel is not there sending Bravo ahead of Badri was not a wise decision
2 Don't know about Vijay. One of my complaints against CSK has been - that they lack a opener who will fire from the first ball. Considering the awesome form Vijay is in, can't fault him for trying to hit from the first ball.
3. Do agree that CSK needs a 8th batsman more than a 6th bowler
4. Too early to comment on Aparajith. Surely a prospect for the future. But with CSK's batting strength, he may not feature in any matches.

@Anon,
Is Albie morkel injured. Not able to find the news. He missed the game because of T20 tournament in South Africa. He would be catching the flight on Monday. So he might feature in wednesday game.
