Last year, all the pundits predicted Chennai Super Kings to be the favorites for the title. But the team fared poorly, thanks to poor team selection by Dhoni & Fleming. Hope the mistake is not repeated this year.
With just 10 days for the tournament to begin, it is time to choose the best XI.
Chennai Super Kings Best XI
- Murali Vijay: For someone who started playing proper cricket at 17, he has grown by leaps and bounds. His performance in this IPL would determine his future in ODI cricket. But Dhoni might pick Parthiv ahead of Vijay..
- Mathew Hayden: A batsman - all the teams would fear. If he repeats the last year's form , CSK would easily qualify for semis.
- Michael Hussey: A Very Tough Decision to pick him above the foreign all-rounders. But prefer a batsman who contributes 35 runs per match rather than an all rounder who is neither a strike batsman nor a strike bowler
- Suresh Raina: Expecting another great season from him
- Badri: Another opportunity to tell the world that he deserves to be in Indian ODI Squad. Hope he makes use of this opportunity.
- Dhoni: Prefer Dhoni as a No:6 batsman. .
- Albie Morkel: His performances in earlier seasons makes him No:1 All-rounder Choice for Chennai Super Kings
- Shadab Jakati/R Ashwin: After his performance in the last year's IPL, deserves to be picked ahead of Ashwin. But would pick Gony in seamer friendly tracks.
- Sudeep Tyagi: Has been knocking for an opportunity to be in the Indian Squad for a long time. Hope he makes use of this IPL to showcase his talent to Indian Public & Selectors.
- Balaji: Team would be hugely reliant on Balaji for his slow bowling in the final overs.
- Murali: Our Strike Bowler. Hope Dhoni & Fleming does not repeat the mistake of dropping him from the final eleven. Only Bowler in the Squad who will be commanding the respect of batsmen from other teams.

#1: Haydos: Bailey can open when haydos is rested
#2: Patel/Vijay: I am inclined towards patel because he can keep as well. Somebody please teach patel how to field in outfield. He looks utterly hopeless in any position other than WK.
#3: Raina: Play normal game (i.e. attack :D)
#4: Badri: play hussey/bevan kind of game
#5: MS: We need 4 & 6's from #5
#6: Oram/Perera: Tough one. Use perera till oram joins the squad.
#7: Morkel/Kemp: Rotate Morkel & Kemp based on form and fatigue. Maybe even both instead of #6
#8: Ashwin/Jakati: ashwin against teams loaded with lefties
#9: Bala: Death over specialist
#10: Murali/Thushara: Use Thushara in games where murali is rested (to prevent fatigue)
#11: Tyagi/Ganapathy/Gony: Depends on #10. If Murali plays go for tyagi. Otherwise Gony or Ganapathy
- Hussey may not join the squad before april. Can we use mukund as replacement till then?
- #6 & #7 is basically 4 players fighting for 2 spots. Hussey can take up one of the spots when he joins the squad.
- players to be used as fillers: badani & ntini
- Missing a genuine fast bowler who can change the game in a quick spell :-( Get well soon Freddie!!!
- Experiments: Albie opening the batting, MS & Raina bowling 2 - 3 overs between them. Worth a try?
- I have a feeling Ganapathy & Ashwin will surprise a lot of people. They could be the wildcards this year
Off-topic:
Is Vijay coming out with CSK shows this year as a build-up to ipl?
@Lion's Cub
Oram is not of great form greatly. I haven't seen or heard much about Perera. So little apprehensive of playing him ahead of Kemp.
I don't think Vijay TV is coming off with any shows as a build up to IPL. But haven't seen any Tamil Channels recently. So can't comment.
- Robin
raina at one down for sure, no one's gonna tinker with tat even though am expectin loads of bouncers directed at him....
@cub, oram??? really? he was useless last season except maybe for the mumbai match,.. wud luv to see wat kemp can do though.. and nice thought bout albie openin with haydos... tat's one for imagination...
robin has a point wen he suggests hussey over another all rounder though, they dont seem to contribute too much in the bowling dept except for albie(and he's not exactly lethal either)...so why not be a really strong batting team tat can also bowl...
1. HAYDEN
2. VIJAY/BAILEY ( vijay should concentrate on keeping his wkt intact while trying to score he has the talent but he should follow gambhir in this)
3. RAINA
4. BADRI ( STILL HUSSEY COMES)
5. MSD

8. MURALI
9. BALAJI
10.TYAGI (he has to prove his worthiness to be included in the indian odi squad)
11.JAKATI/GANAPATHY
LET CSK TRY THIS COMBINATION IN THE EARLIER STAGES THEN IF ANYONE OF THESE NOT MAKING A MARK THEY CAN VERY WELL REPLACE WITH PEOPLE LIKE GONY/ORAM/ASHWIN/PATEL/PERARA/BADANI
