Chennai Super Kings Vs Rajasthan Royals - Review

Rajasthan Royals effectively ends the semifinal campaign of Chennai Super Kings. Now only a miracle can help the team to reach the semifinals. Blame of the poor performance should rest solely on the team's selectors who missed from buying good talent from this season's auction and acquiring talented ICL players (Satish playing for MI & Vignesh playing for KKR) and domestic teams.

Positives
1. Thushara: Though I would have preferred Ntini to Thushara, Thushara bowled well. Surely deserves another chance in the team.
2. Jakati: Another fine performance by him.
3. Vijay: His initial outburst set up the match beautifully. But he should have continued and finished the game. Also blame rests on the middle and lower order batsmen, who did not make use of the opportunity.
4. Albie: Good to see his big-hitting again on the field.

Negatives:
1. Joginder: I still don't understand why Joginder is getting picked ahead of Tyagi & Balaji. Other than this, team selection got everything right.
2. Badri: His 27 ball 25 runs effectively ended Chennai Super Kings hopes. His run-out of Dhoni was the real turning point of the game.

No talk of the end of campaign. It might need a miracle. But for sure the miracle will happen.

yeah it is "the" end.

Only a miracle can do it and we have to hope other results go our way

Bowling was again expensive, what makes it worse was they scored so much runs with Yusuf conributing almost nothing with the bat

The worst decision had to be Badri sent up ahead of Morkel with above 9 an over required and he was all at sea, the run out made matters even worse

And only god can answer as to why Joginder was picked today..

CSK - ROARS... sorry GROANS.. said...

Miracles happen for MEN
not for DUCKS disguised as CSK strategy team...

DAMN...Dhoni.. Fleming.. VB....

NOW, tell me why you have JOGI in this lineup...? god sake!!!

wats the rational in sending ALBIE the only real striker in the team for the last overs always..?

what the idea in selecting a new player in arun karthik and sending him at no6..?

USE UR COMMON SENSE GUYS..THEN TALK ABOUT BEING CLEVER......

Badri Badri Badri...Im sure Warne would be chanting his name for knocking out Dhoni in the center and helping Rajasthan Royals take his wicket on that crucial moment.

And he goes on to do wat hes now getting famous for "bat to loose the team".

Mr Srinivasan, These unprofessional guys could be from the same caste as you, thats all ok, but its not fair that you are breaking the hearts of millions of fans who see this as their home team mainly becos they hail from chennai or from Tamilnadu.
Second time in last five matches Badri banged with Dhoni in the middle of the pitch. How to run between the wickets, I thought thats some school boy lesson. Never mind Badri is no more than that.

The positives of the whole disaster of CSK this season is that, it will make the team management seriously think the weakness of this team and what kind of players they need for the future and who needs to go out of this team. Im sure Parthiv, Vijay, Badri knows where they belong.

Yes, end of the road. Period.

I dont know why jogindar is still there in the team....
Badri made us lose this match....
End of Hope...

i have identical thoughts as you. Joginder sharma will not even be picked in my gully cricket team. Tyagi doesnt get a single game after his stupendous performance. Morkel should have been sent ahead of Badri. Badri is huge liability to the team as he is slow (but scores runs, which is why its difficult to drop him)...overall, they look every part to become the fav whipping boys of this edition of IPL. Hopefully the new auction next year should make the team management think twice before opting for players like George Bailey (worthless), Oram/Flintoff (too injury prone to be of any use) and players like Perera and Thushara (who wouldnt even make it to the SL T20 team)...watching players in CSK team seem to suggest that it is the poorest franchise in IPL....

I dont understand why Morkel is sent up the order neither in this edition nor the previous one. we have to opportunity for local player but at the cost of losing every match. Morkels batting has been completly under utilized.

@ Morkel,

Yes. It would have made sense today to send Morkel ahead of Badri..

Makes no sense shuffling the team time and again. We have a problem in bowling, in battin and in fielding. Either we get better talent or lift ourselves admirably like Rajasthan does(which is way Warnie is miles ahead of even Dhonis and Dadas).

I am surprised people like Naman Ojha and Lumb canb play stellar innings when badris and Parthivs struggle always.

Joginder- was he taken as a pure bowler?

Murali Vijay started well..couldnt finish it.

And Btw even Dhoni looked a tad off color.

Hussey and Bollinger- too late m8s, CSK is sinking!

Badri unfortunately doesnt make the cut in this setting unless its a rebuilding process. And teh so called allrounders also fail to deliver.

Bhajji -if he can make that whirlwind knock being just a pure bowler...wat are our all rounders upto?

Next we face RCB!!hehe

Robin said...

@ Yeskay,

Yes. None of our batsman have ever went into attacking mode without any inhibition. There are averse to taking any risks. Hope Bhaji's knock teaches a few lessons to the team.

DHONI AND JOGI - bane of CSK said...

Fans don't worry ...
Dhoni's arrogance and lack of commonsense will see the season through as it did in the previous two seasons...

gotto say DHONI- the CSK Captain
is 1/10 of DHONI- the INDIAN captain..

DHONI...WATS UR RATIONAL in selecting JOGI the great and leaving out NTINI...always..
RUBBISHHH....as boycott says...

@Murali
To bring caste into this discussion is pretty atrocious and nonsensical. Yes, they had a collision for the second time. But linking that to caste is pretty absurd.

Badri takes his time, I give you all that. But we need someone like that. Yes he should improve his running between wickets. He is like Kallis for BRC, though not in Kallis' batting class. So if he is in the team then he should bat right at the top and not at the bottom.

I also agree that Albie should be given more time in the middle. If a wicket goes after the 10th over, then irrespective of which wicket it is, Albie should be the batsman in.

Joginder Sharma, as someone pointed out is still living his 15min of fame. I don't understand why he gets selected again and again.Other than selecting him because there is no one else fit (health wise) it makes no sense.

Murali Vijay is a way better player than Duck Patel. So I think he should be at the top until we find someone better. The problem with Dhoni is that he tries to optimize all the positions too much. He wants a bit of batting and bowling and hence he prefers all rounders the most. Sometimes it may be better to select pure batsmen and pure bowlers.

Anyways, I am almost at the end of my patience with this team and I think its lights out for the CSK this season, as Dhoni himself acknowledged. Lets hope the guys seriously think about the composition of the team for next season and I think it needs a thorough re-look.

This is simply not CSK's year. In 2008 and 2009, CSK reached final/semifinal with almost the same team; only difference is that Hayden/Raina were far more consistent. Goes to prove that this team is solely dependent on a few players. As far as local talent in this team, less said the better. All of them score tonnes of runs in ranji trophy; doesnt mean anything in T20. Hope Srini/VB understand that they need horses for courses. Find the best T20 players for CSK even if it means looking outside TN. Well ,for now, lets dream that CSK wins 7 out of 7 till wednesday when they will get thrashed again by RCB.

When 2 ppl collide mid pitch, isnt it that both of them be blamed? Why is everyone blaming only Badri?

arjun said...

As someone pointed out.. true.. you need someone like badri who can hold the innings together. But badri also needs to adapt to the situation and play. He has to go for the big shots if the team has lots of wickets in hand and is doing well.(like in the match against CSK). He has to take risks if the team is chasing a big target and when the RR is climbing high. See how dravid has adapted. If he cant do that he should not be batting at No 4. Put someone else like Arun Kartik/Anirudha Srikkanth.. whoever can play some big shots.
Also CSK is underutilising Dhoni and Morkel.. just how KKR is underutilising Angelo Mathews. We have to correct that.
I think the only reason why joginder is persistently put in XI would be that Joginder is a slow bowler.. and a slow bowler could be effective in the middle overs if he bowls a tight line and length. But this isn't working, so we better go with another spinner.. won't be a bad ploy.
As to previous games, I thought yesterday we definitely improved.. but things just didnt work good for us. Had Hayden/Raina even scored a 50, we could have won.

guys like Badrinath are perfect for only test matches.... look at the way he is playing.... 25 runs(27 Balls).... Selction Board should have purchased atleast 2 Excellent overseas bowlers.... anyway all the best for the csk's in the next season(2011) as they cant go to semi's this season for sureeeeeee...........

LOL @Badri is like Kallis for BRC

I have always rooted for Badri to succeed but I have come to understand that he is incapable of adapting to the T20 format. He hogs up the middle so much - it is painful to watch Dhoni and others unable to play their natural game or take quick singles with Badri in the middle.

Bring in Ganapathy, Tyagi and Badani for Badri, Arun Karthik and Joginder. At least put in a bit of effort guys.

I do not understand why CSK slows down after the initial powerplays. Dhoni was successful in one match to pick up the scoring rate in the end overs. Lucky ? What would have happened if Dhoni got out in that match earlier ?

This is 20-20 format. Everyone has to take some responsibility. They have to maintain the tempo of scoring runs even in the middle overs so that they will not come under heavy pressure in the end overs. The reason the players would give for the consolidation is the nature of the pitch. My ass..

Now, 5 matches are going to be in chennai, which is a belter, let us see what we are going to do in Chennai. Momentum in the middle overs is going to be the key in winning the remaining matches.

It is absolutely not impossible, just some clever thinking is required. We, sitting in front of our TVs and computers seem to know more than the thinktank (About the selection of Joginder). What on earth they are thinking while picking up Arun Karthik, Joginder etc.

I am still hopeful that CSK will be in Semis, to start with, and then lift the IPL3.

Arun karthik is he a dashing batsmen or striking bowler ( ofrourse he dint bowl) they could have tried him little bit earlier and make him to slog as hs has got no particular image or pressure. CSK management means ( expect the unexpected ) they will very well know they are lack of accurate bowlers still they will not bid for any striking bowler. And keeping on telling morkel is a dangerous batsman ( why he is not sent upfront to thrash the ball and reduce the runrate so that people like badri can make use of it to win). Atleast for the match against RCB we are expecting ntini, bollinger in the squad. Let us see as usual they will bringin parthiv in place of badri ( funny selection ). No one seemed to be agressice other than murali/hayden/raina in the team. It appears as though they are playing to lose.
