End of Semi-final Hopes for Chennai Super Kings?

With this loss, Chennai Super Kings has lost four of the first six matches. To comfortably make it to the semi-finals, the team has to win at least six of the next eight matches. An uphill task for a. weak team. After this performance, everybody except Chennai Super Kings Fans would write off the chances of Chennai Super Kings.

Positives:
1. Raina & Badri Partnership: It was good to see the partnership from Raina & Parthiv. Finally both got to show their talent. But a 190+ score could have effectively put the match away from the grasp of Mumbai India.

Negatives
1. Team Selection: Why pick Parthiv when he has been doing badly? Why drop Tyagi after a good match? Why pick Perera ahead of Ntini? It seems as if the team rewards non-performance.
2. Medium Pace Bowlers: I still don't see the reason for bowling short when the pitch is on the slower side. How can all the bowlers bowl Full-tosses?
3. Fielding: Any team that gives so much easy twos does not deserve to win
4. Perera: It is time Chennai Super Kings send Perera and Gony to their homes.

Just the fact that Dhoni's captaincy can't inspire a win with such a good score speaks volumes about the team this season. Now the team needs a lot of luck (i.e. lot of matches to go its way) to have any chance of making it to the semi-finals.

I am writing this after the match against Mumbai Indians. Frankly the CSK has been on a slippery slope right from the first edition. They reached the final, then in the second edition they just maanaged to reach the semi finals and now they are the bottom dwellers. I wonder why everyone in the team always has a stupid smirk on the face whatever happens in the match? They have gone from being hot, then to being cool to now just plain cold. They are the worst team in IPL3 and if there was a relegation then they definitely will be relegated. Next time, they play in Chennai not a single person should turn up in the stadium. Where is the sense of pride? After all its not the dog thats in the fight that matters -its the fight thats in the dog. Last place is what CSK deserves and thats where they are headed.

CSK this year is not fit for the semi finals. I'm a fan and will continue to support the team but it would be grave injustice to teams like Mumbai, RCB and Deccan if CSK makes the semis with such a lifeless team. CSK franchise has become profitable, yeah because they didnt spend on anyone worthwhile. All their money was spent on Dhoni and Flintoff and then just just got some cheapos like Thissara, Joginder, Jakati etc. Hope in the 2011 auction, they put their brains to it.

It is better to skip CSK's next match than to watch the pathetic bowling and Parthiv's batting. Fielding standards too seem to have dropped. Another listless performance.

Certainly, its quite surprising why Perera has been experimented against tought contenders and in crucial match whereas not in easy matches. It seems there has been very much inconsistency in bowling dept.Every bowler has got hit in one or other matches. Its been poor selection althrough the game. Also the pattern seems that spinner are able to slow the game to some extent. But still Balaji, Gony,Tyagi and Joginder are practicing in the live matches. The better bowling selection may be Ntini, Morkel and Murali from overseas. Any leg break or who bowls leg cutter to right handers esp should taken from home.batting is fine with same order. One last thing, it was good show from Raina and Badri.

KUDOS to VB, Venky prasad and Fleming ..Three wise men of CSK..Tyagi out of attack after Figures of 4-0-19- Econ-4.75 last match ( NOW Thats wat I call Team selection..wow..) to give way to JOGI - who also gave the same runs.. but in just ONE over bringing MI back in the game..
and a Icing on the cake ..perera gave away another 19 runs in one over when it mattered the most.....

A match winning performance by our bowlers for unfortunately for MI..

Ha.. what can one say.
Parthiv-the waste-patel again showed up and stunk up the place. Joginder sharma is still making a living of a Misbah mis-hit. No surprise in the way both these guys played. Just surprised that they are in the team.

I don't mind Thissera playing this game and clearly he was a 20 year old completely nervous. I would forgive him. But I don't understand MSD waiting for the slog overs to bring him on rather than making him bowl right at the top or when the first wicket fell. Ntini not playing when clearly the bowling is our weak point is unbelievable. I was also surprised to see Badri, in particular, not being able to accelerate after the 14th over. We were clearly 20 short. But, I don't think those 20 runs would have made a difference today considering how crappy our bowling was. It was a shameful performance and I am eagerly waiting to see all these losers get thrown out of the team next year.

I really dont understand the business model of these franchises and how they make money but for the CSK fans it is just about showing some passion for the game and having some pride in your performance. We dont need just big names, we need people who play with passion. IT is time CSK supporters make this known to the team management. There is no point in thronging to the stadium and sitting in front of the TV when we have a bunch of 11 people who have neither passion nor pride. These guys pocket huge pay checks and I bet most of them are already thinking of their next contract. The only fitting thing that will make them come to their senses is empty stadiums for home matches. If people blindly rush to stadiums in spite of the teams performance, their loyalty will be taken for granted. It will never put any pressure on the team or the management to perform better/ Shame on you CSK.
CSK - Children Studying kindegarten....Instead of a lion on your jerseys you should have a three toed sloth. Dont you guys have any pride. Is your pay check the only thing that excites you guys...It is not that you have lost 4 off 6 matches that hurts - it is the way you played. Completely Spineless Kowards.. thats what best describes this team

Fellow bloggers,

in todays match the only thing I am enjoying is to read ur comments. I was very very eager not to see the match, but to wait & read what you have written. Teams performance is already known. I was the first guy to comment in the previous blog. The result was evident. To my surprise, CSK team management made it even easier. Thk u management... V love u (in Prakash Raj style).

I wish not a new team.... But a new management itself. From day 1 before IPL 3 started, I had made a bet stating that we will be last. If not last, for sure last four. And we deserve it. We are playing with those who are not even representing their states. How come they could compete... Common guys... Dont loose ur heart!!

Enjoy CSK getting trashed!! Afterall we are from TN. Its common for us!!

There is still hope guys. We'll definitely make it to the top four if we win 6 of the remaining 8 games. Or, if we win 5 of the remaining 8 games, there is a chance with NetRunRate.

Doug E Bollinger and Michael Hussey are coming in on Apr 1st. We have a match against in-form Rajasthan Royals before that. So, if we could win this game, there is definitely a good chance that we make it to top 4.

C'mon guys, please don't give up on our team.

It is absolutely unbelievable as to why they picked useless Jogi ahead of tyagi, who bowled really well against a rampaging RCB.

Why they took Patel instead of Vijay is baffling. And to think that Patel has the nickname 'Chottu Hayden'! Ha! Can't even get his strike rate above 100 to at least get close to Hayden.

Why does Dhoni seem to be against Tamil guys? He should remember that he is leading a 'Chennai' franchise, not an 'All India' franchise.

Frankly, I would have taken Chandrasekhar Ganapathy, a form bowler and batsman, who is much better than useless Jogi.

But what's the point of all this? Dhoni, VB and Fleming will still go with their stupid selections! What to do?

I believe a lot of viewers also suffer from short term memory, so many were gunning for perera and now everyone is questioning it. He bowled at a wrong juncture.

Jogi's inclusion is appalling, i think Raina can bowl his 2 overs than take some1 who bolws and gives runs, and cannot bat.

Yesterday we were just not enought, it was clear. MI was clearly superior with Sach leading from the front.

Too many changes wont help, by now we should have got our combination.

Chota Haydos -LMAO!

Come on Guys, KKR were all alone last year and CSK will give them company this year, at the bottom!!

Really pity guys like Hayden, Murali,Dhoni and Raina. Rest of the 7 in the team are playing for the opposition.

Hussey and Bollinger!! Lets see whether they get selected in the 11. Our wise men will think Vijay and Joginder sharma are better options.

Yor are right

our wise men think jogi and vijay are greater than Hussy and Bolli

what to do

AGA said...

Bollinger would be a welcome addition. He is definitely a quality bowler and have no idea why other teams ignored him? But before he arrives, Ntini deserves one chance. Perera also deserves another chance. It was the first glitzy IPL night for him and must have been overawed. For the next 2 games since hussey and Bollinger will not be available, the XI should be:

1) Hayden
2) Arun Karthik/ Mukund
(Both patel and Vijay have got enough chances, someone new should be tried)
3) Raina
4) Badri
5) Dhoni
6) Morkel
7) C Ganapathy
(should definitely replace Balaji, a much better bat too)
8) Tyagi
(Way better than Gony/Joginder)
9) Jakati
10) Ntini
11) Murali

There is a lovely comment that Dhoni is leading a Chennai team and not an Indian team. It is a pity that he is not aware of the performance and potential of the local lads, who are champions of shorter forms. Thhe locals are frustrated that they are treated badly and that shows in their dismal performance. Ganapathy - Balaji combination, Ashwin - Murali double off spin combination, Murali Vijay as opener, Badri at the middle for stability & hitting tosupport a hitter is what is required. If Dhoni does not know or does not want to support local boys, he better quit CSK. Let us bring Dinesh Karthik to lead the side from next IPL.
