Chennai Super Kings Vs Bangalore Royal Challengers - Match Preview

When both these teams met last time, Chennai Super Kings plucked a victory from the jaws of defeat. Bangalore Royal Challengers would be still ruing over that close match. Both the team's fortunes has not changed much after that. While Chennai Super Kings has been able to hold on to its top four position, Bangalore Royal Challengers are ailing at the bottom of the table. With regard to today's match, Bangalore Royal Challengers has nothing to lose, which makes them a very dangerous side. So we can surely see a spirited opposition from Bangalore Royal Challengers.

Our Team:

Most probably, the same eleven would be playing today. But Dhoni recovering from his finger injury may not keep wickets. So don't be surprised to see Parthiv Patel behind the stumps and Dhoni in the outfield. Most importantly, if Chennai Super Kings lose this match, it would have a monumental task of winning all the rest of the matches to qualify for the semifinals. [To know why, click here]

The good thing is that most of the players(both international and local) are in good form.  But still, the team may experiment with some new players.

Most Dangerous Players:

  1. Steyn: Last time when both the teams met, Steyn was clobbered by Dhoni in his final two overs. He would be looking for revenge, making him a very dangerous bowler.
  2. Misbah-ul-Haq: He finally found form in his last game. If Bangalore Royal Challenges bat second, he could be their key player.

Royal Contests:

  1. Dhoni Vs Steyn: Steyn would be looking for revenge against Dhoni & Co. So this battle could be interesting.
  2. Dhoni Vs Kumble: In IPL, Dhoni has found it tough to handle leg spinners. So it would be key to watch how Kumble bowls to Dhoni.

Favourites: Home crowd advantage makes Chennai Super Kings the  favourite. But expect another tightly fought game.

Your talk of a spirited fight by the RCs seems highly unlikely, considering the fact that they still don't seem to have gelled together! It probably may be a walkover for us, but the boys should use this match to sharpen their skills for what could be a cracker of a match against Warnie's Royals!

Dunno whether Steyn will play today, considering the fact that he didn't play in the last match!

Frankly, the performances of Misbah and Cam White have surprised me a lot, considering how consistently they perform for their national and state sides respectively! :(

RCB manages to get atleast 2 teammates run out in most matches. Can CSK hit the stumps? Our fielding has not been great. Win the toss - bat first?

i think you are being a bit conservative here. i think we should roll over this one. and even then - we need to win the last 2 - yes, but not like we have to win the last 8 or something ... so I guess saying its a "monumental" task is being a bit conservative !

Relax and enjoy our performances.

Btw I put my preview on dlf ipl - the only thing that is different that i wanted to point is that dhoni excels in these situations as captain - where you have to keep the momentum going - so i dont think he will let up.

i too dont think that the RC's are playing like a team.. they just playing for d money.. anyways, coming back to chennai team, we have solid 7 . if 4 wickets fall quickly, we have dhoni, morkel and badrinath.... & gony can bat in final overs.. so we have solid batting line up. and bowling..... well we have two hat-trick guys (LB & Ntini) promising Gony , Legendary Murali. and S.African Morkel. there will be no upsets in todays match.

I think we should win the match and get closer to the semis. RCB still have a proper combination.

thirucumaran ratnavadivel -
Steyn did play in the last RCB match.

Absolutely complacent batting from CSK; disgusted with the shots the batsmen played.

Great bowling from Kumble! He bowled well in the match against Delhi and he has continued his form here.

Happy for Dravid who has been in lot of pressure.

it was more like we gifted the match than they earned it. Defeat is always disappointing. but this is just plain horrible!
