Future International Players

The long term success of a professional club is hugely dependent on the way the club acquires and nurtures young talent. But in our team, most of the international stars are in their thirties and could not be expected to play for more than 5 years. So it is time, our team starts acquiring young players especially bowlers to strengthen the bench and lay a foundation for a strong future team.

One of the players that I wanted to see on the yellow clothes was Ajantha Mendis, the young Sri Lankan mystery leg spinner. He could have easily become the future replacement for Muralitharan in Chennai Super Kings team.  But Cricinfo reports that he has been poached by Kolkata Knight Riders. Similarly, one of the franchises is close to sign a record deal with Pietersen for the next three years. Hope there is some one in Chennai Super Kings who scouts for young talent (both Indian and foreign) and bring them into the team in a earlier stage so they develop a sense of association with the franchise.

Who are the players (not yet signed by any franchise) you would like to see on our squad?

definitely michael clarke and mitchell johnson of australia, flintoff of england, maybe collingwood also, stuart broad is not a bad choice, also some zimbabweans and bangladeshis might be decent - say ashraful, brendan taylor, mortaza etc.

I think there are a few exciting players for CSK to look at. Here are some of the players they might want to consider for the future...

Jerome Taylor, Darren Powell and Darren Sammy of West Indies.

Jamie How, Jesse Ryder, Chris Martin and Tim Southee of New Zealand

JP Duminy, Charl Langeveldt of South Africa

Mohd. Ashraful, Tamim Iqbal, Aftab Ahmed and Mashrafe Mortaza of Bangladesh

Players like Vusi Sibanda, Justice Chibhabha, Elton Chigumbura, Brendan Taylor, Gary Brent and Trent Johnston of minnow countries

These players may not be of high repute but they are extremely useful backups to the biggies in case of absence due to injury or national duty. They can also be bought at cheap price since they are less sought after.
Of course there is a whole lot of talent to dig from the England team and English county.

@ gaurav: i think there is a rule in CA contracts that no more than 2 centrally contracted CA players can play for the same club. Since CSK has Hussey and Hayden I dont think they can sign clarke/mitchell.

CSK needs one really explosive opener and one genuine quicke. middle order with raina, badri, dhoni and albie looks more than good.

Flintoff can be a good signing. Cook is definetly a better bet than useless parthiv patel. He may not be explosive but he is young and can play for altleast 7 - 8 seasons.

how abt csk going for local talent hunt throughout tamilnadu and get someone(give them stipend) say a group of five people with sheer pace(140k-150k) and train them for an year(may be in academy like MRF pace foundation).

probably it pays off and it is good for the game.
since most of the players as of now are one who can afford to spend lot of money for training and their time to cricket and this dosen't give us best of the talent.
please come up with suggestions on this.

if pakistan can get players like imran and haq rfom their streets..we can also get best cricketers..since franchisee are spending crores of money, spending a few for getting a good talented people thru talent hunt and training them wont cost much.
how it is feasible??
do any one know how successfully were cricket related talent hunt conducted earlier in any part of the world?

K Pieterson, M Clarke, J Taylor (WI), R Sidebottom, A Flintoff, J Anderson (in that order). If Rahul Dravid is sold, we should buy him too!

We need fast bowlers as we've enough batsmen. P Patel can't be depended on, so we need someone to partner Hayden.

@srini,
I've doubt abt the rules. Punjab has Marsh, B Lee, J Hopes and Pomerbach. And CSK played only 3 players from the catchment area.

Ohh I forgot Shaun Tait, the guy who retired citing taxing schedules but says he might be back. He's only 25 and an explosive fast bowler.

I don't think Marsh and Pomersbach are centrally contracted (but the restriction of 2 applies). Of course it becomes interesting if Marsh is now offered a contract - will Mohali have to omit two of Lee, Katich, Hopes, or Marsh?).

We want Nathan Bracken.........!

hey in knight riders team there are
salman but, hafees, umar gul, shoaib akthar i hope all are central contracted players for pakistan. so it is not a problem.

for me flintoff + collingwood + shawn tait + ashraful + nathan bracken + stuart clark.....

^^ praveen.. central contract restrictions are only for CA (aussie) contracted players. they dont apply to pakistan.. if srk wants he can have the whole pak team playing for KKR.

The reason why Cricket australia does not allow more than 2 centrally-contracted players per club is to avoid the scenario where someone will not recruit majority of aussie players and create a 'duplicate' australian team (I read this somewhere I dont have proof. someone correct me if i am wrong)

Hmm... so no Tait, Clarke or Braken for CSK, KKR, Punjab. MI also has 2 Australian players but not sure if they are in the contract. I think CA should allow 3 players so that we can 'buy' Tait or Clarke!

J Taylor, Sidebottom or Kyle Mills should be in CSK next year. We need bowling firepower.

Wouldn't it be interesting if M Panesar is brought by Punjab?

Wait a second... Tait is retired now. CSK can buy him if he wants to play. And he has hinted that he might return to active cricket. Keep your fingers crossed, boys!

Jerome Taylor was recommended by Ramnaresh Sarwan (now the WI captain) when asked about the prospective WI player that owners can buy.

one of my favorite team other than csk is deccan chargers... the team which set perfectly for T20, gilchrist, gibbs, afridi, rohit sharma, scott styris, vaaas, but the team has been thrashed.. see its a problem also, if we have big superstars in our team.. i think CSK team is better in that case. there is no superstars(now). and there is no player whom we can say he is worse.. we have the players who are key in their national side. isn't it.. albie morkel trump card for s.african T20 team. fleming ntini murali raina dhoni badrinath i think this is enough for us to beat any other team.

what abt local talent ? ranji players from tamil nadu ? or even elsewhere in the country ?

Anonymous said...

Why not now train the young candidates they already have.. for example, it would be good and interesting if Dhoni leads all those who have not played in practice match against those "senior" players who have played to be captained by, say, Fleming?

Robin said...

@ gaurav,
Most of the talented Ranji players from Tamil Nadu are already in the CSK squad.. [Except for the ones poached by Delhi Daredevils (YoMahesh & Dinesh Karthik).. ].. May the team could look out in other catchment areas - Goa & Kerala.. But we can also be sure that Chandrasekhar would be keenly watching the Ranji matches hereafter to pick out the talent available...

Guys..this is the best time for indian cricket to make it as flat as possible for entry in to competitive cricket...
how abt franchisee spending little money for rural talent hunt and train them effectively..
and it will be more easier for india cements group because of their control over TNCA ,they can try at grass root level to get talented people in to their clubs that will solve the 90% of our problem..
for next season we will not need any more batsmen with the return of those 2 aussies..we can look out out for young local bowlers with great attitude..
Because spending money and getting foreign players does not guarantee that they are going to perform(bangalore & deccan) were worsr hit..those were extreme cases in one team although our local players perform well they are not able to win matches because of inconsistent form of biggies..and in case of bangalore the foriegn players were not able to perform this would put franchisee in deep trouble.

Hi guys,

What about getting Steve Tikolo from Kenya. He is old, but just to give that bit of variety. I know he is old, but just to give a bit of recognition for his talent. He was one of the greatest players who never had the chance to shine properly. Otherwise I think only untapped resources are from England.

However, I do agree with many of you who think that we have enough talent in our team and it's better to develop some players from the local area. This will give a better profile for our team and also we will be able to get local players who will be faithful to CSK.
